Medical Affairs in Oncology, Pfizer Inc (1 year)

The purpose of this one-year fellowship program is to provide PharmDs with the skills and experience to launch a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry through specialized training in Oncology Medical Affairs (2 positions in US Medical Affairs and 1 position in Global Medical Affairs).

The Pfizer Oncology Medical Affairs Fellowship offers a broad overview of important areas within the pharmaceutical industry, from clinical trial design and site selection to how we respond to the needs of practicing oncologists. This broad exposure will also provide valuable networking opportunities for PharmDs.

Fellows will expand their clinical knowledge through active participation on the Oncology US Medical Affairs team. Fellows will also be expected to work closely with Medical Directors and provide support in the development and execution of a broad range of medical affairs activities.

The fellowship program emphasizes three main areas of development:

Develop critical interaction skills and build a network

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams including marketing, regulatory affairs, public affairs, communications, outcomes research, and clinical research
  • Attend scientific and medical conferences and report on key findings
  • Interact with key medical opinion leaders and other health care practitioners
  • Support key collaboration with Outcomes Research team to develop strategy, implement studies, and interpret data.
  • Transfer knowledge and become a valued team member
  • Provide insight to team members regarding current practices and potential future paradigm shifts
  • Provide input into the development of medical publications, ensuring that manuscripts are scientifically accurate
  • Provide medical review of promotional materials
  • Participate in medical slide development and review, including training documents for field-based colleagues
  • Gain experience in the operational aspects of industry
  • Assist in coordination and planning of advisory board meetings
  • Review of investigator-led research proposals
  • Research, create, and review medical response letters and dossiers in order to develop fair and scientifically balanced responses to medical inquiries

Global and US Medical Affairs-Pfizer Essential Health, Pfizer Inc (1 year)


This intensive one-year fellowship in Global or US Medical Affairs is designed to facilitate understanding of both the strategic and operational aspects of Medical Affairs within the Pfizer Essential Health (PEH) Unit.  This high functioning unit is a large, highly diverse and profitable business with unique opportunities across therapeutic areas, portfolios and geographies. 

Global Medical Affairs

This fellowship is designed to expose the fellow to a broad range of corporate and medical affairs activities.  The fellow will engage with global colleagues and key stakeholders to lead overall strategy and ensure effective global/regional/country alignment.  The team purpose of PEH Global Medical Affairs aligns and executes global medical strategies to maximize the medical value throughout the lifecycle of our products & portfolios. Through scientific expertise, medical leadership and professionalism we create and communicate scientific data and share knowledge critical to the management of patients.

US Medical Affairs

This fellowship will provide a PharmD with not only a comprehensive foundation in Medical Affairs, but also the skill set to launch a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. The fellow will play an integral role in developing strategy and providing support during the post-LOE and peri-LOE phases.  The role allows the fellow to build a bridge between clinical research and development and business analytics by developing strategic methods to communicate the data generated by the clinical development team in order to be marketed to the public. The fellow will have ownership on projects, opportunity for cross functional interactions and exposure to key opinion leaders.

This unique and individualized program is based on the fellow’s interest and is focused on developing expertise across multiple disease states including CV/Metabolic, CNS, Pain/Inflammatory, Women’s Health, Anti-Infective therapies and Biosimilars.

Fellows will also have the opportunity to rotate throughout various Clinical and Medical Affairs including, but not limited to Clinical Development, Business Development and Clinical Pharmacology.

The US and Global Fellows will develop in the following key areas:

Medical Oversight

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams including marketing, regulatory affairs, public affairs, communications, global health and value, and clinical research
  • Participate in medical slide development and review, including training documents for field-based colleagues
  • Provide input into the development of medical publications, ensuring that manuscripts are scientifically accurate

Promotional Oversight

  • Provide insight to team members regarding current practices and potential future paradigm shifts

Professional Interactions

  • Support key collaboration with Global Health and Value teams to develop strategy, implement studies, and interpret data

  • Review of investigator-led research proposals

Global Medical Information/ Medical Affairs-Pfizer Innovative Health, Pfizer Inc (2 year)

The GMI/MA Fellowship is a unique two-year program that is designed to provide customized and practical learning opportunities that will provide a comprehensive foundation and advanced experience that will enable the Fellow to prepare for a strong career in the pharmaceutical industry. The first year will be focused in Global Medical Information and the second year will be focused in Medical Affairs within Pfizer Innovative Health

The Global Medical Information and Medical Affairs – Pfizer Innovative Health Fellowship will afford the Fellow opportunities to develop and exhibit medical professionalism and build a network of industry colleagues.

Fellowship Outline and Rotations:

During the first year, the Fellow will work in the GMI group. Potential therapeutic areas of focus include:

During the course of the year, the Fellow will interact with colleagues within Medical Affairs in addition to cross-functional colleagues, including Regional Medical Affairs (ex. US, EU), Legal, Regulatory, Commercial, Outcomes & Evidence, Public Affairs, Market Research, Independent Grants for Learning and Change, and/or Investigator Initiated Research.

Global Medical Affairs: Inflammation & Immunology - Pfizer Innovative Health, Pfizer Inc (2 year)

Fellowship Objectives/Activities:

  • Develop Therapy Area Expertise
    • Develop and leverage expertise as a subject matter expert for assigned Pfizer product(s) and therapeutic areas
    • Understand and interpret clinical data, emerging scientific trends and the competitive landscape and align internal stakeholders on a balanced benefit-risk proposition
    • Performs in-depth research, analysis, and interpretation of medical literature from external and internal sources
    • Serve as a reliable trusted resource for accurate, current medical and scientific knowledge (e.g., disease states, product label), including for competitive medicines, for internal and external stakeholders
    • Collaborate across cross-functional teams including marketing, regulatory affairs, safety, communications, outcomes research, and clinical research
  • Interact with the Scientific Community
    • Attend scientific and medical conferences and report on key findings
    • Interact with key medical opinion leaders and other health care practitioners
    • Partner with key thought leaders, professional societies, patient and disease advocacy groups to better understand and gain insights into areas of unmet medical needs for patients

Oncology Global Commercial Development, Pfizer Inc (2 year)

Two year fellowship in Commercial Development based in New York City where you will provide the commercial leadership and perspective needed to inform key pipeline portfolio decisions and ensure successful product launches.

The purpose of this two year fellowship position is to provide PharmDs with the skills and experience needed to launch a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry through specialized training in commercial development. The experience will provide a broad overview of how and when critical commercial decisions are made throughout the full spectrum of drug development, from opportunity assessment and trial design to launch strategy and brand development. Fellows will gain invaluable networking opportunities as they collaborate closely with partner functions including medical affairs, regulatory, clinical, regional commercial, pipeline/portfolio decision analysis, market analytics, pricing, outcomes and evidence, amongst others.

CRITICAL INTERACTION SKILLS AND NETWORK BUILDING

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams and regions in crafting insightful for: across tumor, by indication, approach to positioning, launch readiness, and congress/conference planning
  • Understand, prepare for, and mitigate risks/maximize opportunities associated with internal and external developments
  • Ensure appropriate internal representation for the voice of the customer - health care provider, key opinion leader, patient, caregiver
  • Partner with our local-regional commercial colleagues to integrate regional perspectives, restrictions, and opportunities to be incorporated into development and launch programs

MARKET LANDSCAPE AND OPPORTUNITY ASSESSMENT

  • Serve as a trusted resource for accurate and current market landscape knowledge
  • Support internal and external communication efforts around product milestones, data readouts, and key initiatives
  • Collaborate with Market Analytics and Pricing in constructing research tools to address business questions and participate in the distillation and refinement of key market assumptions used to assess opportunities

Clinical Research and Development, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare (2 year)

Fellows who pursue a position in PCH’s Global Clinical Research and Development Department as their core rotation will develop the following expertise:

  • Execute clinical trial programs according to established quality standards (Good Clinical Practices (GCP), external guidelines / regulations, and internal processes) and agreed upon budget and timelines
  • Develop innovative study models to align with commercial and regulatory goals for product launch
  • Communicate study requirements and updates to team for efficient progress of clinical development programs in fast-paced market of consumer healthcare
  • Generate and store relevant documents for study in collaboration with regulatory, clinical development, and franchise functional group
  • Present protocols at Investigators’ meetings and Study Initiation meetings
  • Serve as the study clinician on clinical studies and work with Clinical Operations
  • Provide clinical strategy, i.e., required clinical studies, to obtain product approval in multiple countries
  • Write clinical study reports and clinical efficacy and safety sections of regulatory documents
  • Prepare for and attend meetings with FDA and other regulatory authorities
  • Supporting success of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare
  • Partner with Rx-to-OTC Switch teams to develop new, first in class self-care therapies
  • Assist senior personnel in the preparation of reports for oral/written delivery at internal and external meetings

This fellowship is designed to facilitate understanding both the strategic and operational aspects of clinical research. The fellow will be involved in the development of OTC products, medical devices and Rx-to-OTC switches in various therapeutic areas including pain management, respiratory, GI and personal care.
During the second year of the fellowship, individuals will have the option to work more closely with the Therapeutics Franchise Teams, the Rx to OTC switch Team, or, depending upon interest, Regulatory Affairs, Project Management or Marketing.

Medical Affairs, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare (2 year)

The purpose of this two-year fellowship is to provide a comprehensive foundation in Medical Affairs, but also the essential knowledge and experience to launch a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry.

This fellowship is designed to facilitate understanding of both the development and execution of global/regional medical affairs strategies across health and wellness.  The fellow will be involved in providing direct medical affairs brand support that focuses on bringing value-based products to consumers. 

During the second year of the fellowship, clinically-trained pharmacists will have the option to work more closely with other trained healthcare professionals and scientists working on other teams (Clinical Research & Development, Regulatory Affairs, Safety Surveillance, Project Management or Marketing) to enhance experiential learning within the broader Pfizer organization.

The following activities in four areas will be highlighted during this fellowship program:

Regulatory Affairs, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare (2 year)

Upon selection, you will be offered a place in our 2-year Regulatory Program, consisting of rotation assignments within Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and broader Pfizer business units. Some aspects of this program include the following:

  • Participate in the Review and Approval of Labeling and Advertising & Promotion across one or more Therapeutic Areas
  • Contribute in the Development of Regulatory Strategies for project/product registrations and launches
  • Assist in the implementation of training/orientation programs for onboarding within and outside of regulatory strategy
  • Conduct due diligence on competitive landscape of consumer products and on-package claims, identifying consistent and inconsistent approaches to consumer messaging of  molecule class within industry
  • Help facilitate education of key stakeholders and cross-functional team leaders with respect to regulatory science/basics for local market requirements
  • Gain experience in one or more Regulatory product classifications: NDA, Monograph, Medical Device, Cosmetic, Dietary Supplements
